Olmos Old Valley - Development of Association Projects
Since 2009, the PEOT (Proyecto Especial Olmos Tinajones)has been developing the association Project “Promoción de la Asociatividad y Desarrollo Agrícola en el Valle Antiguo de Olmos”, which has enable the integration of 728 small growers from the Olmos Old Valley into 12 Committees, recognized by Municipal Resolution (Resolución de Alcaldía N°162-2010-MDO) on March 15th 2010. These organizations have been recognized as social promoters for development working in close coordination with the local government.
In addition, the local growers from the Olmos Valley have been trained in entrepreneurship, irrigation systems and have participated in a diversity of working programs. Currently the PEOT is actively promoting agriculture associations looking for strategic partners to support land development in a more competitive way.
The population of the Olmos Valley supports in more than 92% these associations and believe that they are an important tool to increase land productivity and irrigation infrastructure development.
They recognize the following factors as critical for the development of their agricultural projects: 52% training, 20% access to credit, 17% technical assistance, 7% equipment, and 3% infrastructure.
