The Olmos Integrated Project involves the diversion of water of the Atlantic-basin Huancabamba river to the Pacific basin, through a 20-km tunnel crossing the Andean mountain range for its use in the irrigation of undeveloped land and power generation.
Part of the works for the diversion component includes the 43 m-high Limon Dam, the purpose of which is to store the seasonal flows of the Huancabamba river and then conduct the water through the trans-Andean tunnel, which will guarantee water supply to users in those lands. The dam total volume capacity is 44 Million m3 (Hm3), with a usable volume of 30 Hm3.
The main objective of this project is to create an economic development pole and improve the living standards of the population in the northern area of the country.
